Are you someone who tolerates a faulty toaster? Do you even remember the last time the microwave’s light worked properly? Have you been putting the dryer on, only to find everything comes out damp and you need to put it on a second time? Everyone goes through a phase where these things happen but have you wondered how to fix your household appliances? Let’s take a look at the common issues within the home.
THE DRYER
Before resorting to a professional take a look at the settings of your dryer, are you sure they are set correctly? Resort to your instructions manual to verify this. If all looks well take a look at the lint filter. You aren’t looking for dirt as such but a sheet of film over it. The film can be the issue here because if you don’t clean it, then it interferes with the thermostat and that tells the machine to stop producing heat, and you’ll end up with damp clothes at the end. There is an easy fix to this, pull it out and give it a good scrub and rinse with detergent to remove the film once and for all.
THE TOASTER
A lot of the time when toasters stop working, a lot of reasons for that drill down to them not being cleaned properly. Always try to give it proper maintenance as crumbs from bread can clog up further down in the toaster. If you find the bread compartment won’t stay down when you push the switch there may be a blockage which is stopping the switch from locking in properly. By unscrewing the front cover, you’ll be able to see the switch, and all you need to do is give the area a deep clean. Canned air is a good option as it can force the stubborn crumbs straight out.
THE KETTLE
If it’s plugged in at the socket and you try and switch it on but it fails double check the plug is firmly in the socket. If you have a kettle that sits on a base ensure its sitting on the latch correctly and if so, you’ll then have to get the screwdriver and check the fuse in the plug.
Another problem could be a leak; this can be dangerous especially if you allow your children to wander freely into the kitchen. You need to check the bottom of the kettle for any signs of holes or even corrosion. In this situation, you’re best to just go and buy a new kettle as there aren’t any quick resolutions when it comes to corrosive metal.
THE MICROWAVE
You go to put your dinner in the microwave only to discover no matter what you try it won’t heat up. The settings look correct, and you’ve had no problems with it before. The high voltage diode which heats the microwave may need testing with a multi-meter but always remember to switch off any appliance at the mains before performing these types of tests.
